women in the Quran

*This is not an article about women’s rights or gender equality in Islam, rather, it is about women in general in the Quran.

LOVE YOUR WIFE AND SHARE YOUR BURDEN
It is He Who created you from a single person, and made his mate of like nature, in order that he might dwell with her (in love). When they are united, she bears a light burden and carries it about (unnoticed). When she grows heavy, they both pray to Allah their Lord, (saying): “If Thou givest us a goodly child, we vow we shall (ever) be grateful.” (7:189)

DO NOT FORGET YOUR PARENTS ONCE YOU ARE UNITED WITH YOUR HUSBAND/WIFE
“Be pious to Allah, to Whom you seek your mutual rights (Men seeking to have the rights of having a wife, and woman seeking the rights of having a husband), and to the wombs (do not forget your responsibility to your parents after marriage); surely Allah has been Ever-Watchful over you.” (Quran 4:1)

GOD ACKNOWLEDGES THE BURDEN OF BEING A MOTHER
“And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination.” (31:14)

GOD DOESNT FAVOR MEN OVER WOMEN
“And their Lord hath heard them (and He saith), “Never will I allow to be lost the good deeds of any of you, whether male or female.”” (Quran 3:195)

NO, NOT EVEN AS MUCH AS THE SPECK ON A DATE SEED
“And whoever does righteous deeds, whether male or female, while being a believer – those will enter Paradise and will not be wronged, [even as much as] the speck on a date seed.” (Quran 4:124)

EQUAL REWARD AND FORGIVENESS FOR BOTH MEN AND WOMEN
“For Muslim men and women and for believing men and women, for devout men and women, for true men and women, for men and women who are patient and constant, for men and women who humble themselves, for men and women who give in charity, for men and women who fast (and deny themselves), for men and women who guard their chastity, and for men and women who engage much in Allah’s praise, for them has Allah prepared forgiveness and great reward.” (Qur’an 33:35)

PARADISE FOR BOTH MEN AND WOMEN
“On the Day you shall see the believing men and the believing women their light running forward before them and by their right hands. Glad tidings for you this Day! Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), to dwell therein forever! Truly, this is the great success!” (Quran 57:12)

MEN AND WOMEN JUDGED BY THEIR RIGHTEOUSNESS, NOT GENDER
“O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female and made you into nations and tribes that you may know each other. Verily the most honored of you in the sight of Allah is (one who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things).” (Qur’an 49:13)

CONDEMNATION OF FEMALE INFANTICIDE AS PRACTICED BY THE PEOPLE DURING THE TIMES OF IGNORANCE
“When the female (infant) buried alive is questioned for what crime she was killed.” (Qur’an 81 89)

GENDER PREFERENCE AS PRACTICED BY THE PEOPLE DURING THE TIMES OF IGNORANCE, IS EVIL IN THE SIGHT OF GOD
“When news is brought to one of them of (the birth of) a female (child) his face darkens and he is filled with inward grief! With shame does he hide himself from his people because of the bad news he has had! Shall he retain her on (sufferance and) contempt or bury her in the dust? Ah! what an evil (choice) they decide on!” (Qur’an 16:58 59)

WIVES ARE NOT FOR THE PLEASURE OF HUSBANDS
“And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find peace and happiness from each other; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.” (Quran 30:21)

HUSBANDS DOESN’T HAVE THE RIGHT TO COMPEL HIS WIFE
“The mothers shall milk their offspring for two whole years if the father desires to complete the term. But he shall bear the cost of their food and clothing on equitable terms. No soul shall have a burden laid on it greater than it can bear. No mother shall be treated unfairly on account of her child nor father on account of his child. An heir shall be chargeable in the same way if they both decide on weaning by mutual consent and after due consultation there is no blame on them. If you decide on a foster mother for your offspring there is no blame on you provided you pay (the mother) what you offered on equitable terms. But fear Allah and know that Allah sees well what you do.” (Qur’an 2:233)

WOMEN ARE NOT POSSESSIONS AS VIEWED BY THE PEOPLE DURING THE TIMES OF IGNORANCE
“O you who believe! You are forbidden to inherit women against their will. Nor should you treat them with harshness that you may take away part of the marital gift you have given them except where they have been guilty of open lewdness; on the contrary live with them on a footing of kindness and equity. If you take a dislike to them it may be that you dislike a thing and Allah brings about though it a great deal of good.” (Qur’an 4:19)

PROBIHITION OF MARRIAGE IF YOU PREFER ONE WIFE ABOVE THE OTHER | THE ONLY RELIGION THAT SAYS “MARRY ONLY ONE”
“If you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly with the orphans marry women of your choice two or three or four; but if you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly (with them) then only one” (Qur’an 4:3)

women IN THE BIBLE

The measure of a woman in the Bible is quite contrary from the Quran:

Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head. But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.

For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered. For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.

For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man. For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.

Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord. For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God. Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered? (1 Corinthians 11:4-13)
